Graduation Dress

Thursday, 23 May 2013

I'm graduating from my masters next week! Two graduations within (almost) a year is a very good thing. Here is my graduation dress from ASOS. It's yet to arrive but fingers crossed that it's perfect! Graduating from Usyd will always guarantee you the most aesthetic photos, ever. Not just the background, but amount of ruffles and gathering on the cloak. It's got more volume than an eighties hairstyle!

Here are some tips for finding the perfect graduation dress.

  • Concentrate on the front - remember, you will have a cloak ocean around you so forget about what the dress looks like at the back. It's the centre of the front that you want to worry about. Pick a dress that will crop well in that area. Bold colours and prints work the best.
  • Pick a flattering style: shift dresses, skaters, empire waist and A-line work best. I wouldn't dare touch peplums.
  • Consider your sash colour - always make sure that what you are wearing does not clash with your sash. Try and match it, but don't try too hard. NEVER go for navy - it'll look like odd with the black.
  • Check the length - you do not want a dress that's longer than your cloak. Seriously.
  • Remember the weather - this is common sense, but especially relevant if you are buying the dress in advance.
Update (28/05) - had to return this dress. It was far too long and pouffy.
